Wyrd Books Celebrations for the Spring Equinox
We’re on the threshold of the Spring Equinox and nature is gently humming with the first stirrings of Spring. Known to many as Ostara, the Spring Equinox is a time of perfect harmony, a balance of Winter and Spring as we step into a new season. Named for the Germanic goddess, Eostre, this festival honours her symbols of dawn and fertility, represented by manifestations of new beginnings and rebirth, such as eggs, seeds, hares, and butterflies.
As the Earth awakens from Winter’s long song, it’s time to connect to these sentiments of fertility, rebirth, and divine feminine. Below, find some of our favourite ways to celebrate this turn of the Wheel at Wyrd Books.
6 Ways to Celebrate the Spring Equinox
Plant Seeds with Intention
Whether in a garden, a window box, or a wild patch of land, plant seeds as an offering to the Earth. Whisper your hopes into the soil and trust in nature’s wisdom to nurture them.
Some ideas for seeds you can plant at this time of year are lavender, leeks, onions, oregano, peas, rosemary, sage, strawberries, and thyme.

Adorn Your Altar
Decorate your sacred space with symbols of the Spring Equinox, representing fertility and growth. These can include fresh flowers, painted eggs, crystals such as rose quartz and moonstone, and candles in soft hues of pink, yellow, or green.
Get Crafting
Express your connection to the season through creativity. Paint eggs as symbols of fertility and renewal, make flower crowns with seasonal wildflowers and greenery, or weave baskets to hold Ostara offerings.
Perform a Sunrise of Sunset Ritual
Observe the rhythms of the natural world by waking with the sunrise, or take a moment of stillness at dusk, and pay attention to the creatures stirring in the changing light. Rabbits, fledglings, and butterflies, all sacred to Eostre, remind us of the joy of renewal.
Feast on Seasonal Foods
Celebrate the bounty of the Spring Equinox with fresh, locally grown foods such as leafy greens, honey, eggs, and early Spring vegetables. Bake bread or cakes infused with herbs and decorated with flowers to honour the Earth’s abundance and share your feast with your closest friends or family.
Bathe in the Energy of the Spring Equinox
Whether you’re able to take a cold plunge in the sea or a lake, or if you could simply dip your toes or wash your face in a running stream, water is the perfect symbol of nature’s cleansing power and there’s nothing better to refresh you.
As we approach the Spring Equinox, let us honour the divine feminine within and around us. With each budding plant, breath of fresh air, and blossoming tree we are reminded that we, too, are part of nature’s cycle and Ostara’s renewal.
A blessed Spring Equinox to you all.
